Consultation has concluded

The proposed Property Standards Bylaw is a standard of maintenance by-law respecting residential and non-residential properties for the Township of Manitouwadge. This by-law would provide for a minimum level of standard, which the Township expects property owners to maintain. It is designed to protect the health and safety of the occupants and to a lesser degree the general appearance of the property.

During the Community Revitalization Planning process and responses from many residents responding to several surveys, it has been determined that the Township requires a Property Standards bylaw to assist in revitalization efforts within the Township.

In addition to establishing the bylaw, it is proposed that a Property Standards Committee will be established. The Committee would be comprised of three (3) Citizens at Large to be appointed by Council. The purpose of the Committee is to hear appeals by property owners or their agents who have received an order from the Township's Property Standards Officer.

In 2019 Council for the Township passed Bylaw 2019-15 passed a bylaw relating to yard maintenance. The Bylaw is known as the Keep Manitouwadge Attractive Bylaw. The Property Standard's Bylaw is directly related to occupied buildings located within the Township, whether they be owned or rented.

Council has requested the public provide comment on the proposed Bylaw for their consideration. A survey is available below and in addition, a public open house will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, April 21, 2022 in Council Chambers at the Town Hall. Residents can also attend online by preregistering to Joleen Keough, Clerk at clerk@manitouwadge.ca or by phone 807-826-3227 x 223. A link to participate online via Zoom will be forwarded follow registration.
