Consultation has concluded

In 2018 Council engaged consultants McGregor Coxall to deliver a master plan in consultation with the community that will enhance liveability of the city through integration of the creek and its associated ecology with urban design principles and the creation of useable, enjoyable and safe public spaces.

The area of the master plan follows Dumaresq Creek and includes the adjacent parkland areas east to Taylor Street and west to Albion Park opposite the Armidale Tafe. Comprehensive consultation with the community.

A draft Armidale Creeklands Masterplan was produced in collaboration with the community and key stakeholders. At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Wednesday 19 August, 2020, it was endorsed to place the draft masterplan on Public Exhibition immediately. The draft plan will now be on public exhibition for 28 days from Thursday 20 August to Thursday 17 September 2020.

The draft Armidale Creeklands Masterplan is on Public Exhibition for a period of 28 days. Residents are invited to make submissions by;

  • mail to Armidale Regional Council, 75A Rusden Street, Armidale 2350,
  • email to council@armidale.nsw.gov.au, or
  • dropped off in person to the Armidale or Guyra Offices.

Submissions will close on Thursday 17 September 2020. Public submissions will be treated as non-confidential unless the submitter specifically requests confidentiality. Submitters are also allowed to have their submissions treated as non-confidential, except for the name of the submitter, or other identifying material.

The draft masterplan will integrate the cultural, social, recreational, environmental and tourism potential of the entire precinct, while addressing the key issues of environmental and hydrologic impact, public safety, flooding, social infrastructure and maintenance.

The project is an opportunity to deliver a wide range of public benefits to enhance liveability through integration of water and urban design. The masterplan can also deliver value to the region across a broad range of economic, social, and environmental areas using sustainable water management as the driver.

The Armidale Creeklands masterplan can unlock these benefits through optimisation of infrastructure investment across water, public space, recreation and active transport planning while providing sustainable water management strategies.

These initiatives can also contribute to the health of human and ecological communities by linking parks, cycleways and other community infrastructure to water features such as wetlands, habitats and riparian areas. Sustainable water management outcomes can include pollution control, ecological restoration, increasing drought resilience of green space and mitigating local urban heat islands.
